Photon Cluster Collisions

Two or more atoms or molecules can form a cluster, which is bound by weak Van-der-Waals forces. Even compounds of rare gases, that do not exist in Nature (normal temperature and pressure), can be build in the cold conditions of a supersonic gasjet.

These systems are interesting quantum objects, since they establish an interlink between single atoms and solids. Using synchrotron radiation, we could observe ionization mechanisms, wich can occur only in the environment of a cluster.
