Fast Ion Collisions

In the case of fast, high energetic ion collisions (vcollision >> velectron respectively Ecollision > 100 keV) a lot of kinetic energy is brought into the system by the projectile. Here the dominant channel is the ionisation, in which the target electrons are transferred into the continuum. Besides this ionization channel charge transfer reactions like the transfer ionization into the projectile can occur in fast collision, as well. We investigated the following mechanisms:

  Ionization mechanism
  Capture mechanism

  Loss mechanism
  Transfer ionization
